ok im getting a kicker zx500.1, and i want to be able to use the bass control to roughly adjust the subs output, or is using the bass remote bad for the amp?

also if i was to use it, would i adjust the gain with the remote as high as it will go, to +18db so it wont clip when i turn the bass remote up? or how should i do that without using the HU for bass control

well i like to be able to control the level of bass through that knob, like my old amp you could practically set it to where you couldnt hear the subs fire, and it clipped a bit at the highest so i always dialed it back a little, and you couldnt hear yourself think, like i said earlier in this thread, do i just adjust the gains with the bass knob as far as ill turn it?

You adjust the gains on the amp once, when you first set it up and not again unless you change out headunits. Gains are not a type of bass boost knob for turning up and down as you see fit. Set your gains the correct way once, then leave them alone. If you still use the actual bass boost knob then just turn it up as much as you like, or down. And if you turn it up and hear clipping, then you were clipping it before you actually think you heard it.

LEAVE IT AT 0db. Do not use the bass boost at all unless you know how to properly set the gain and bass boost so it doesn't create massive amounts of T.H.D.

Or don't even plug the boost knob in at all. Bass Boost helps you gain a little more output on the bass, but at the expense of a clipped signal and distortion, which are the leading causes of blown subs.

if you get the remote then know where to stop turning the knob up by knowing where full output is reached. alot of people keep turning it up thinking its a volume knob when its not.

so set the gain sensitivity first and just adjust the bass knob a bit before i can really head clipping? because i have no idea if this kicker is going to be like the soundstream i had before but when i unplugged the bass remote it sounded like the boost was maxed

some people like to jack the bass boost wide open....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
for them extra deebeez //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I was tempted too on my new amp that lets me choose the freq. of what i wanted to boost. But the chance of clipping was too much of a risk and i dont want to blow anymore subs...

thats the thing ive never blown a sub, the only time ive ever smelled burnt coil was when they were breaking in. and so you guys are telling me theres never a time when you want to adjust the bass according to what your listening to? and if you do, how are you doing it without a remote
