Bass boost or gain?

Was wondering if it would be alright to turn my gain all the way down and increase my bass boost to max. I have increased the gain from its correct setting for a brief moment and didn't notice any change at all. I even lowered it from the correct setting and couldn't tell any difference in sound quality or bass. So would it be alright to increase my bass boost to max and keep the gain on min? I can definately notice a big change when I turn the bass eq knob //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Orrrrr should I keep the gain where it is and turn up the bass eq? I am running 1000 watts rms into a 10 inch woofer in a sealed box.

no, use the gain, bass boost just ***** with the signal

unless you have an o-scope on it I wouldn't touch it.

I have bass boost off on any system I set up.

If you're not noticing a difference then something is WRONG gain should ALWAYS yield a huge difference when you adjust it. You could have a whole other problem but to answer your question NO don't max Boost to compensate for gain in fact I would never use Boost.

Alright! Thanks. I do notice when I change the gain from min to max but it is nothing like the bass knob. Would it be ok to use it once in a while when im showing off the system?

Agreed with Fi_ get a multimeter and put the probes on the outputs and see if the voltage reading alters with the gain change.

Play a constant tone on it, I would suggest 50hz.

On a side note... I realise the forum just let me swear in a post... this is new.

no, I would not recommend it. It will just clip the signal and will most likely distort it anyway.

(it will be loud but sound like ***)

Bass boost only effects the freq it is set to, if you have a RTA you can use it as a EQ for that single freq nothing more. You dont just turn your gain all the way up. Thats howw you smoke woofers and destroy amps. It is not a power knob

Haha guys, I was not using the gain as a volume knob. I was just seeing if it made a difference in the quality so I could maybe turn it all the way to min and up the bass eq. But I wont be using the base eq at all

May be best to look into getting a ported enclosure made for your sub..would be my recommendation, and possibly more power/better rated amplifier in the near future..but ya, dont use bass boost like that, you can damage the sub,as well as the amp ..simple thing is..if you have no gain, more than likely you have nothing to boost???????Way I see it:awesome:
