bass booost?

Bass boost is like setting the bass high on speakers. Most speakers your sound quality may get less because you're using bass of speakers. Subs are made for bass. They shouldn't need a bass boost if they're a good sub.

 
yeah, and for every 3dB of bass boost it would require twice the output power (at the bass boost frequency), so you'll run into clipping very quickly.

im pretty sure bass boost doesnt add any power... it simply takes power away from the other freqs so that the boosted freq sounds louder...

Nope. It actually tells the amp to try to produce more power at that freq. If the gain is set so the amp is just short of clipping with the bass boost at 0, turning the bass boost up even the slightest bit will cause it to clip.

It won't let the amp produce more power than it would be capable of but it will tell it to try, just as having the gain up too high will cause the amp to clip because it is trying to produce more than it can having the bass boost up will have the same effect.
