Bass Blockers

A bass blocker is just an AC capacitor (non polarized). Radio Shack has a couple different sizes and their spec sheet says what frequency they block and stuff.

And don't yell.

Bass blockers are quite simple to build. First you needed a capacitor and a cut off frequency. To get a cap value you need to now the impedance of the speaker and the cutoff frequency

Cut off occurs when the impedance of the cap and the speaker are equal so the power is split between them.

Eq'n Xc=Rspeaker R is speaker impedance and Xc is capacitor reactance.

Xc = 1/(2*3.14(pi)*Fcutoff*C) so rewriting this eq'n yields

C value(Farads)=1/(2*pi*fc*Rspeaker)

Put the cap in series with the speaker and there you go a high pass filter.

When buying caps look for non-polarized caps made from Polypropylenes type of materials.

Oh one cap pre speaker.

Yes. No problem, and no different than using outboard crossovers mounted up in the dash or near the amp.

Those look like decent cheaper options for sure and probably fine for some systems, but I agree, Audiocontrol has been making high quality stuff...
