Bank accidentally gives man $5 million

amazing to me how it takes a few days for news that is on the *news* ends up here like we haven't seen it.

P.S. if you have a huge increase in your bank account that you know isn't yours (even if the bank says go ahead and spend) don't listen. Believe it or not the bank tellers don't go to super bank teller school or anything.

Almost any moron can work at a bank. You just need to know how to count and have a clean background.

The 48-year-old salesman said he tried to tell officials at Commerce Bank in December that he did not have a $5 million account.

Lovell said he was told it was his and he could withdraw the money.
I think the bank should be liable because of the quote above.

i was depositing a check and they offered me a job

The fact that he tried to say he didn't have a $5 million account and then they proceeded to tell him it was his is pretty fucked up.

I can understand prosecuting him if he happened to see the money in his account then tried take it and run, but the story does not show this. You can't expect every Joe Shmoe to understand the banking system when the banking officials are telling him nothing is wrong.

You mean to tell me that if you went to your bank, and they said you had a 5 million dollar account, and you had the honesty to say, no i don't, and they replied that in fact you do, and you took out the money and spent it...

how is this grand larceny?

that's messed up.

I remember when I was 16, had like 150 to 200 bucks more in my bank account after I deposited my check. Thought it was the banks fault, so I went out and bought an profile amp, some cds and little stupid stuff. A week later I found out it was my tax return money lol. My dad had it direct deposited into my checking account and I forgot all about it.
