Bang For the Buck Midbass .

Hey everyone,

I am moving my Comp/tweeters to kicker panels So i wanted to get some 6.5" midbass speakers to put in my front doors.

Whats the best bang for the buck midass? As price is a issue.

well i just picked up two jl audio 6w0's for 170 brand new -- they aren't really designed as a mid bass but they do well in that capacity. these things just pound too.

kicker rmb 6 or 8- great midbass but not good for anything over 500hz- it does it but not in great status

The amp's internal crossovers will only work if a) The highpass and lowpass can be used together to bandpass the midbass, and b) the internal xover gives you the crossover points you will need. Otherwise, you need to look into either getting an external crossover, or using the amp's built in lowpass and use FMods to highpass.

alpine type r's, dont look at CDT first, cause i personally dont think they are as good as everyone has them hyped up to be.

I've heard the Alpine's, wasn't too impressed... IMHO, I'd go either Extremis 6 or possibly Morel/Seas/Vifa/Scanspeak for mids...

anything can be really good or bad based on the 3 most important things though. installation, eq and x over points. any part of this not done right isnt a "real fair" judgment. how i usually judge a speaker (mid-mid bass) is is it good tonally in a door? (door locations are usually open air installs) to me what constitutes a bad or difficult speaker to use is if it only sounds good in a semi large (1-2 cft.) sealed enclosures. some speakers excel in small sealed (under .75 cft) while others are "good to great" infinate baffle. alot of times poor results from a known good speaker are from using it commonly but not its direct design intent.....too make a more fair process ask or look at the application in which the speakers are used. some speakers also sound awesome on axis but stink off axis while others sound better off axis than on axis......also if you just hook up your speakers +- in phase throughout the install (all in phase) do to location x over points , slopes and distance all you might have to do to get the sound better is to knock 1 or 2 of the speakers out of phase..some speakers are better in kicks, others doors....imho people should talk more directly with the speakers application rather than just saying "brand x *****" or "brand x rules"

I have personally tried the alpine type r 6.5" as midbasses, they rock! They are pretty much a tiny sub and can really get with it!
