Well i bought a portable hardrive and added music to it

but my pioneer 6000 doesnt even see it

is there anything I need to do,maybe format it somehow?

The HD is 250gb so its right at the limit that Pioneer has

the light on the HD lights up

anyone know?

Its a toshiba if it matters

I don't know shit about this stuff but remember seeing something about your USB needs to be able to provide enough power to run it, you should check the usage on your HU and your HD and make sure it gives out enough juice to push it.

Typically, HU's only provide like .5a on the usb. Barley enough to spin a laptop HD. You need an HD that runs off 12v (your car's 12v) or a car power supply for the HD that runs that way. Try a thumb flash drive full of mp3's and see if your HU can read it.

I got a 16gb flash from Fry's in Plano for like $70, something like that should work. Almost any real spinning hard drive will need an external power source.
