background noise

i have a pioneer deh-p500ub and it has a background noise like static. when music is playing it is hard to hear but when it gets to a silent part you can easily hear the static in the background. also i can hear that cellphone noise when someone is about to call me only when the phone is close to the deck.

what are you using for your music source (like ipod mp3 player cd) mostly likely is shitty mp3 quality your hearing, also do you have a 4 channel amp or anything

also what kind of car

i used usb and cd both the same

mp3 quality is 192+

no amps everything stock except head unit

i remember the pioneer harness came with a ground ring terminal but i cut that off and connected to the stereo harness ground. the stereo ground wire looks to me like it is smaller wire than the pioneer ground wire. do you think this may be the problem?

I had a deh80mp with the ground ring terminal and i cut it off and used the factory ground. It was 60x4 and even when running a 4ch amp i had no noise

are you sure you used the ground and not amp ground? might be that, just extend the wire and touch it to something you know if a good ground. not the pico fuse because hes not using the preouts

and unplug you am/fm antenna to see if its getting ground through the antenna

I would use whatever you have to test it. If it solves the problem, I'd solder and heat shrink the extension piece to the existing wire then crimp a ring terminal on the end and bolt it down really well.
