awww fvck

that car has one of them push putton start's.. you have to actually hold the button for about 3 seconds in order to turn the car off
But the shifter is still manually operated, correct? I would have shelled the transmission or engine in that loaner car by throwing it in neutral or reverse before I would have jeopardized my life and the lives of my passengers. Not to mention, as said above, used the e-brake.

maybe they were just stupid.. i mean if they cannot figure out how to do any of the above, but can call 911 is pretty stupid imo.

survival of the fittest?

looks like murder/******* to me.....

Let me call 911, instead of trying ignition off, neutral, 3rd, 2nd, 1st gears... And those all weather floor mats are known for this

shitty balls seriously. kind of suspect though. some people do overly panic and just cant do anything, but a cop? someone who's trained to stay cool in a shitty situation?

none the less its hard to judge unless you're in that same situation.

Neutral would have at least done a little something, but I remember an episode of mythbusters where they tried slowing down a runaway car by throwing it into reverse and discovered that cars have a safety mechanism that doesn't allow you to actually "shift" into reverse with the car at a certain forward speed.

Which would actually make sense so people don't accidentally shred a transmission.

I think I remember reading that some newer automatic cars the torque converter/****** will just slip and free wheel if you try to cram it in reverse at high speeds. Wouldn't stop the car but would atleast stop it from accelerating.

Have to agree on the cop part. A guy that is supposed to be trained to stay calm in high stress situations not thinking about options seems kind of wierd. Who knows though, hard to judge unless its you in your car with your family barreling down the freeway at 120. I lost the brakes in my car coming up an offramp once at 80mph and it didn't take me long at all to get all over ebrake before I crashed into people.
