Avoid Them

Drive through small towns on the Oregon coast, where US 101 is the only real main road and figure you're in for some police radar. Port Orford has the highest level of enforcement. Where I live (Coos Bay/North Bend), there's too much city to cover for the city cops for them to run a bunch of traffic enforcement but every year there will be 3 or 4 crosswalk safety ops getting conducted. Coos County Sheriff's Department way understaffed so expect little from them for radar or help if you are in trouble. Staters get to drive Dodge Chargers and they're scattered about the region. You may think it's all clear and out of the blue comes that blue Charger...LOL!

It used to be we had more police (city, county, state) and enforcement was REALLY heavy. The budget shortfalls affecting the cities, the counties and the state have resulted in quite a few cutbacks. We have plenty of people die on the highways and city streets, so if you travel our way, be careful in your driving. Other than Port Orford, you don't have a swarm of cops to watch traffic and things do get out of hand at times.
