Hey guys. First time post. I'm installing a Pioneer AVIC-88DVD Navi unit in my car and looking for help from the pros here....
This issue has been spoken about time and time again, and I need clarification on this. I'm familiar that to bypass video lock on in-dash video units, the installer needs to ground the parking brake lead from the HU harness. Well, my navigation unit (which doesn't play DVD's) has a parking brake wire on its harness and Pioneer's manual says to connect this to the "power side of the parking brake switch." In the diagram next to this they show the parking brake wire on the harness is clearly being connected to the "+" positive wire of the parking brake switch.
1.) Is the sole purpose of this wire to deter me from using the navi while driving?
2.) To bypass this, do I just ground this wire or connect it to a +12v constant wire in my car?
I'm confused, any help would be great, thanks!
FYI - I'm posting the same msg on a few different boards on the net so I could get input from a variety of people, so please don't be offended if you see it posted elsewhere.
