Aura RPM Stage 2 10 AKA Aura RPM Plus 10
Size: 10 inch
Coil: Single 4ohm
RMS: 300watts
Xmax: 13mm
Enclosure requirements: average size sealed. 0.75 to 1 cube
Msrp: N/A (Sub Discontinued)
Sound Quality:
I was hella amazed at the SQ of this sub. In 1 cube sealed, it keeps up with highs, doesn't peak at all, and has a very nice low end.
Build Quality:
These subs are NOT built for physical punishement. I have already destroyed one and damaged a second. The first died for reasons I'm still not sure of. Be it DC current or sawdust in the motor, the sub froze in place and I could not repair it. It took a light socket for about 3 seconds.
The gold plated push terminals are mounted WAY too close to where the baffle mounts the basket. This means that you can forget about things like double baffles and 1" MDF. Also, these terminals are mounted directly underneath two of the screwholes in the basket. I made the mistake of using 2" screws to mount the sub, and literally screwed into the negative terminal and broke it off! I repaired it with a nut, some carpet, and fiberglass resin, but be warned. Mount these with 1" screws or shorter or you will risk damage to the push terminals!
Overall:
The Good:
This sub has got great sound, and the efficiency is surprisingly good. I figured a 10 able to play like this one in a sealed enclosure would not be efficient at all, but in my car, it kept up against two IA 187 12s quite nicely. It also will handle well over it's RMS in a SQ daily driver setup.
The Bad:
Keep this sub away from stuff like dust and 2" screws! Do not drop this sub, don't be rough with it at all! It is sensitive!
Conclusion
The capabilities of this 10 overshadow the design flaws regaring the placement of the push terminals and it's generally fragile nature. If you are looking for a good SQ 10 with a low volume requirements, good bottom end, and an overall pleasant sound, this is a good woofer to look into.
