Considering how many people here make "my sub blew up" threads, I'd say they can't handle that level of power to begin with.

They'll get loud off 1k, louder off 2k, and will take 3k of clean power in the right enclosure and not playing full tilt for hours on end. I ran 3k to each of my HDC's with no problems //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I would also guess the 1k rating has a lot to do with the fact that most won't upgrade the electrical properly to run 2k of power, so voltage drops and clipped signals are far more common.

Feed em clean power and they'll take a beating...
