i had a 10 mass and my new RE HC 10 kills the hell out of it in SPL/SQ. But there not bad subs at all. but the under 300 isnt true when you add the shipping and tax my was around 330-350 i dont remeber . I got my RE HC10 for $204 shipped and i like better.
personally i think mr. overpeck should jump at the chance at a review like this ..who get read more here than ranger? or let ranger and bigbassman do it together...they practacally live next dorr anyhow.... i mean come on at least do it at cost.....

WE only deal in facts my friend and in this case, back issues of Car Stereo Review (now Mobile Ent.). If you want to disagree with the facts (and data) of the matter, well I guess that is your perogative.
According to CSR (as tested by Tom Nousaine) when they tested a CV 'Stroker' 15" (in a CV custom-built 3.2' ported box) it did 129.0 dB peak SPL output. This is matter of published record.
The MASS 2012 prototype (with about 5 mm less Xmax then production units), in a tiny 1.0' sealed box, did 129.1 dB! This is also a matter of public record (Jan 2000 issue of CSR). This is why it was crowned "the new stroke (Xmax) and SPL champion."
Heres a few more facts for you. While the CV 15 has about 50% more cone area then a MASS 12 has, all this means is that the MASS needs to have 50% more Xmax (given the power available) to match the output of the CV. The proto MASS had 19 mm of Xmax, while the CV has about 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) of Xmax. So 1.5 X (50% more) then 12.7 is....
Ta Da! .....19 mm!

And regarding being "bottom-heavy"? That would be indicative of using too large a box, as the lower Fs (22 Hz.) stronger motor and the lower VAS (on the MASS 2012), means the driver needs a smaller enclosure (like 1.0 - 1.2'). Put it in a larger box and it will produce "too much" output under 40 Hz. This is easy to fix, unlike a sub that is "boomy" in a very small box.
But your "right" (since it is your opinon here), the MASS is not a "good sub"....
it's a GREAT sub! (according to both CAE -- June 2000 and CSR/ME -- Jan 2000)....

matt i can think of about 10 subs i would take over anything you make including the top end woofer's you make. hell i'd take a pair of RF HE2 12"s over your mass2012's. oh and yes a friend of mine had a pair of those 12"s and they didn't sound as good in a custom box as my subs did in my custom box and he paid much more for his than i did for mine.

Why haven't there been any comparisons to note of in the past year or so. Seems like maybe your woofer isn't that great since new technology is being developed everyday. Audiomobile might have been able to hang with the big boys 2+ years ago, but it doesn't seem like they can hang with the big boys in the 2002's. If you are so confident about your sub, send one to Rangerman to review. Stop avoiding comment on suggestion, or is it that you are too ashamed of the outcome that may result. On a last note, Rangerman is fair, he has no reason to write a bad or good review. He will state it how it is. So let's make an end to this thread with a "Rangerman, your sub is on it's way"
Better yet...sent me the sub, I will review it, send it to each individual member of the review committee, so each can have their own opinionated take on the sub. That is so far 4 individual opinions, with one sub...How about it Mr. Overpeck???

well i'm doing my best to scrape up my pennies for my all 0 guage wire, and other wire to my amps then i need another set of RCA's, money for the box, money for a new amp. i still got about 1-2 months before those DD's will be in my car, i'm not too anxious though im getting my blaupunkt's back tonight and they will be filling my SPL needs for the time being. you want my review on the DD's right??

You gave in the first post a db score of 129.1 for your sub and 129.0 for the CV. In the second post referring to this situation, you say that the CV hit 130 and your sub the 129.1 I thought the CV lost to your 12'' sub. I've never heard your subs so I will not say anything bad about them. I like my kickers but we are all entitled to our own opinions. I just ask that you too think before you speak to avoid putting your foot in your mouth. Let the products speak. Send Rangerman a sub for review. If you honestly believe you have the better sub then what are you afraid of? I know a big mouth guy like you isn't chicken is he?
