I've read that they are temp sensitive on the meter and can really skew the numbers.

Also, can you use this on a sub output? I would think it needs a full range signal to work properly. Most sub outputs cut off above 125 hz

 
I use mine on my sub output, but just make sure you run a full signal with no high or low pass filters. It uses the upper frequencies to determine where to divide the signal and amplify it. I don't know exactly how it works but thats pretty much what I know. It works really well with some songs and not as well with others. The spl meter is pretty accurate imo.
