Audi A4 1997 HU

So I haven't kept up with car audio in a while, but I am now buying a new car. I was looking at an Audi A4 (1997), the HU size was really weird, not din1 or din2, it was really wide, would I be able to fit more current HU(Alpine 9857) in with an adapter to reduce the opening?

with the factory radio out there is a din sized opening and there exists a dash kit for the car
