I have an older sony vaio notebook and I want to add a gig or memory chip so its faster. Its a pcg-fxa47 and has 20 gb hard drive:crap: it has 256 mb but is expandible to 512 mb. I know it needs a 144 pin, PC 100 unbuffered DIMM chip, but do I buy the 128 mb or the 256 mb chip and do I buy 2 because it has 2 memory slots sorry guys but me no smart at dis.

But to also answer your question, you would buy two 256 meg sticks.

yeah you kinda answered your own question. if its only expandable to 512 and you have 256 you can only buy 1 256 and you are back to your max.

Only Sony Viao Laptops use 2 128meg sticks in order to get the 256 meg. So he would need 2 256 meg chips in order to get 512 meg.

ah yeah, i missed the part where he said he had 2 128's i thought he already had 1 256. nonetheless, cant go higher than 512.

Send me that 128mb, I need to test a Dell laptop that flashes bad ram. I fear that the MB is gone and don't want to spend money on memory.
