Attaching a basket to a motor... with a twist...

Ok, so I got my soft parts out of the XXX, and got the basket off. The scews that were holding the basket on were pretty much epoxied into the holes in the top plate, and the holes are completely stripped. So no wonder the motor came detached from the basket. So, I'm left with 2 options and your suggestions:

Option 1: Epoxy the basket back on and the screws in, like was done before, and hope for the best. I might could build a support into the box. But afro engineering will probably lose in the long run.

Option 2: Get some self tappers, and/or drill farther down into the top plate into solid metal and use longer screws. My only worries are getting shit in the gap, which can be prevented.... but knowing me, I could fuck it up., and I don't know if drilling into the top plate would hurt the motor.

Opinions and suggestions are very much welcome. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif

Oh, and the shame behind the whole thing is that my friend sent it to RE to be reconed... this is the second time the motor has become detached. So RE jerry rigged it.

holes in the BASKET were stripped, or the screws were stripped? I'd say take the basket to a machine shop and have new holes drilled in it, and or use BOLTS and washers to secure the basket to the motor.

Did I read it wrong?

Tap the holes with a bigger tapper and get some bigger bolts.

You may have to drill out the basket to fit bigger screws through there. You can't drill down farther into the top plate because you will end up hitting the magnets and most likely crack them.

yeah, go with a larger diameter bolt.

well that's the beauty behind the XXX... the top plate is f'n 2 inches tall, and the original screws went in 1/4"...

bigger bolts are sounding nice, though.

True, I forgot about the monster top plate.

But even still, I think you would be better off with just tapping bigger holes instead of having 1" long bolts that are only holding on to 1/4" of the motor while the rest just hangs there.

ive tried drilling holes in a magnet b4........dont bother, you just end up with holes in your hand //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

well i was just cleaning out the epoxy from the holes ( //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif ) and the holes go deeper into the motor, but they narrow. So, I might could put in longer screws.

edit: and I just put a 1" #8 screw in, and it screwed right in and held firm. I might go for another screw with a little more girth to it, but it looks like I can just put longer screws in.

The holes taper down because the tap that was used to thread the holes gets thinner towards the end.

If something does hold good enough, and there is enough thread there, then you could possibly get away with it, but I wouldn't trust it.
