At what age...

Yay time for my two cents...

I moved out at 18 when I enlisted and, to be fair, I spent a year at home with the parents. The whole free laundry, no utilities, etc thing is definitely a bonus there. On the other hand, the lack of privacy and ability to do what I wanted wasn't there. Once I moved out, especially after all the training was over, I learned a shit-ton of responsibility by being a renter. It takes a ton of thought to effectively plan out your money and not succumb to the tons of credit card offers/loans/etc that will come your way. Follow that path and good luck buying a house before you're 30 (take my word for it from personal experience).

My wife, on the other hand, got to the point where she was so dependent on her parents while living with them that watching her live independently was almost a nightmare. She pretty much went right into her rebellion phase; laundry never got done, we started falling behind on bills, got way too much credit for our own good, and all that happy crap. Suffice to say my take on living at home where life is cushy can have its drawbacks, regardless of how much you've saved at the beginning.

That being said, focus on finishing school before you consider moving out. Nursing school's no joke and without knowing your academic record, am sure you know that well. Stay at home and continue to save, then take that savings with you to Florida like you mentioned and start smart. Just start acting like you're living independently at home to prepare because once you move out and move away, it's not so easy recovering from mistakes.

Oh and as for homeowning, it's a great time to buy right now and I know that. You can buy for a steal of a price with the market and, even if you don't decide to live there permanently, you can always have an income propery by opening your house up to renters. Problem is I think everyone should have experience as a renter so they can understand how it feels to be on both sides of the equation if that's the route you plan to take. My coworker owns four houses locally and another on the east coast. Suffice to say, even if his Navy pay started tomorrow, I doubt he'd have an issue.

At the rate I'm saving now, within a year, I wouldn't be able to "buy" a house. Maybe make a nice down payment on it.
But, I'm not buying a house here. I really want to move to Florida.
Well obviously not gunna be able to pay cash but the more work background you have and the more you have to put down the more you will get approved for...

well if you just stayed at home during the first few years of your nursing career you can save up some serious coin. Especially if you can get into say a traveling nurse?(70k and next to no expense?) its worth staying for a few more years and have a nice down payment for a house set up.. at least in my opinion....But what type of nursing are you going into? Im in nursing as well

Moved out right after HS and went to CC with my buddy. It was a great time. 6 months later I moved back and stayed for another year. Moved out when I decided to leave school out of state. Parents and grandma help pay for stuff as long as I stay in school.

I just got uncomfortable with the living situation at first. A lot of partying was done but I felt like it was going to be short lived with it interfering with school, plus I got homesick cuz I'm a lil bitch. I was glad to move back for a little to help take care of some family and then realize how much I enjoyed not being around my parents that often.

Sounds like you are more dependent than I was. I'm finally starting to become independent financially, doing my own taxes and ish like that. Wasn't sure of anything for a long time. I'm thankful my parents have helped me out so much over the years because I know a lot of people don't have that fortune. Just time for me to start dealing with things on my own. Actually, all the dependence I had and uncertainty for my future caused a lot of anxiety for me. Now that I'm doing things on my own I feel more liberated and happy.

Just my 2 cents.

Traveling nurse would be cool.

But otherwise I would probably just be a registered nurse in whatever city I decide to stay in.
