What sort of differences in response do you get from it?

AP setups are similar to polyfil. It uses the membrane to slow the back wave down tricking it to think it is a larger enclosure. You can vary the thickness to change the charicteristics too.

Basically it is a very small (barely bigger then the driver itself) enclosure that is vented with the membrane.

There is a good write up on ECA in the tutorials section.

EDIT: Found it.... http://www.elitecaraudio.com/article.php?sid=18

Except for ours is a bit different. We have the "inner" enclosure that is as small as possible (the Volcanos that are pictured in my camry fotoblog) and then there's the outer enclosure that holds the volcano in place. You can also see the insides of the volcanos in the picture of the AP membrane req posted.

The outer enclosure also has a hole in it for the back wave (so there's nothing "sealed" about it) and that vents directly into the carpet, which breaks up the rear wave enough for gov'ment work.

the mic i have is not the most accurate on the planet. so we figured out by playing different frequencies (mostly the lower octaves) they are noticably higher than the rest. so the mic is biased below about 250hz, we could hardly hear any midbass at all. so as the frequencies get lower, the mic picks up more vibrations in the air because its pretty freakin loose diaphragm. so what we hear on this seems to be flat i spose'.

each dot represents + or - 3 decibels. mind you, as you RTA somthing the bars move around a bit. so they are pretty much within +\- 3db of a flat curve. the subs were off because they biased 30hz and 80hz really bad and it would drown out the rest of the mic response. and i dont think the mic picks up anything above 16khz or so - as you can see from the picture, and it starts to cut off round 10k pretty bad.

all in all, it sounds pretty fucking awesome.

heres a better image for the RTA. just so you can read it easier.
