i think that im going to go with the assassin subs but their web site power ratings cunfused me. it has the rec. power for the 12 in at 250W and the rms at 350W. what is the rec. power? is it recomened power? also im looking at the 10s as well b/c they will be easier to fit in my truck. what can the 10 or 12 in assassins take?

thanks,

mitchell

Ben,
Thanks for your email. Thermally, the Assassin's are pretty beefy. You could

very comfortably send them 400+ watts each without much of a problem. However,

you will run into their mechanical limits much faster than you will run into

their thermal limits as they are quite sensitive. Taht is why we rate them at

~350 watts.

3.5 ft^3 for two drivers will work great. You can even go a little bit smaller

if you prefer. For maximum output, you can even tune them up to around 35 Hz.

Let me know if you have any further questions and we will be happy to assist

you with your project plans.

Thanks again,

Chad Kuypers

I think recommended power is just a number they made up that they thought made them sound good enough. I ran my two Assassin 12's with a Profile AP1000M (doing ~450W total) and they sounded very good and pretty loud. They can definitely handle a lot more though. I've done 600+ (each) for half an hour at a time and they're fine. Also, in the e-mail Chad mentioned they hit xmax before thermal limits, in the next e-mail he sent me he said they won't be damaged past xmax (but won't be linear), so xmech must be quite a bit more. I did 400W to each in my ported box (tuned to 32Hz) with the subsonic filter set to 5Hz, with a 20Hz tone!!!!! and they're still fine. Needless to say it was definitely overexcursion (I accidentally turned the SSF the wrong way), but did not permenantly damage the drivers! Assassin's are beasts!

hey thanks a lot for the help, im leaning towards the 12's. also is there a certain distance that the back of the driver magant has to be away from the back of the box. like does there have to be a 1 in, or 2 in gap from the sub to the back of the box?

thanks,

mitchell

no, as long as your box has correct volume, you should be fine.. i built my box to sit underneath the rear seat in my dodge ram, and the heght is very limited.. thereis only about a inch from the back of my sub to the box, but the chambers are a little over 1 cu ft each, and it sounds VERY good...

PS, if i had it to do over again, i might also go with the 10's, cause 10's are not only smaller but they also require less airspace for a ported enclosure.. sealed sounds GREAT with these 12's, but a ported box will get lower.. so even though you will only have 10's, they will still be lower then 12s sealed..
