Arsenals Arrived!

pics are nicee!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gifthis is gonna be loud:D
my girlfriend's camera takes pretty good pics, and i have no idea what i'm doing with it. i just turn on flower mode (close up, i think) and auto flash (it always flashes indoors) and they look quite good. just imagine those in their native resolution of 2200 x whatever. I trimmed one of them down to 1680x1050 and have it as my wallpaper //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

and yeah, they just look/feel loud. way beefier than the assassin's and much stiffer suspension.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/woot.gif.aaa6090e619a97b6090d16dd863c5a69.gifGet vids stop teasing us with just pics.
no amp!

scheduled to arrive friday, should have vids over the weekend, but it's supposed to snow tomorrow //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif could throw a wrench in my plans. i also need to install my angled speaker rings and those speaker pads i got.

omg i can already tell those vids are gonna be delicious
they actually have an intoxicating smell, look great, and feel very solid. i'll taste them when i get home //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif (that's 4 senses, what's the other one? i guess it doesn't //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif )

wow UPS really didnt adhere to the FRAGILE stickers around those boxes. enjoy them mate //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
yeah, they ****

but they made it safely, that's all that matters

Let me know how you like them compared to other subs you've had because i'm very interested in buying a set of those exact same ones.
the only other subs i've had are the AA Assassin's which i loved. great SQ and got very loud (to me).

I read that AA was going to come out with a ~$200 18" driver called the Assault about the same time the Assassin's came out but it was canceled.

Was there ever an Assault 12?

The reason I ask is because under the rubber cover on my Arsenals' magnet stacks they both have a sticker that says, "Assault 12".

lawls

me too i had a sticker "assault" when I bought it, it was the first bash on pre-order though

no idea why...

I don't think you're gonna be disappointed.

I've had my Arsenal 12(getting 600 watts) in a sealed 1.2 cube stealth enclosure in my '98 CRV for four months and I've never regretted my decision. It replaced an AA Atlas 12 and the Arsenal is in a whole 'nother league than the Atlas...SQ is similar, but it goes lower and hits MUCH harder. By far the best sub that I've ever owned.

Chad nailed the SQL bullseye with the Arsenals, IMO.

Two Arsenal 12's should get pretty darn loud but still retain excellent SQ.

Good Luck.

Well, I got them in the box now, but still no amp. Hopefully it shows up on Friday like FedEx says it will. If it does I should have vids Friday night.

All wired up I get about 1.2 ohms at the terminals of my box. I guess I won't be getting full (1 ohm) power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I think I'll be lucky to get the Arsenals' RMS (1450W) out of the SoundStream 1700 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I'll have to check again when I hook up the amp, but I hope it actually ends up being 1 ohm, so I can make sure they get enough power.

well, i got the amp and installed everything. got the gains set and everything was sounding good from in the car, but when i went back to the trunk, one of the subs was making some pretty bad mechanical noises, even at low volumes. when i turned it up a bit it sounded like it was being destroyed

any idea what could be wrong? sounds like a little rubbing at low volumes, but a little louder it sounds kinda like it's bottoming out as well, almost like REALLY bad clipping.

check to see if its dustcap. push down the woofer and hear for the scrapping noise. I dont know how its doing that since it was working fine when i had it.

Ultimately if you cant fix it then just send it back to me and ill try to get it to AA or reimburse you for it.

Sorry for this.

man, that sucks, i hope its nothing serious, you sounded pumped for these things! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

what exaactly do these do again???

ok, the one that sounded worse before has a dust cap that is about halfway off //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

looks like about 1/4 of it never even touched any CA glue, and with use it pulled up a bit more (you can see the cardboard delaminated when you lift up the cap).

the other one (that i thought was good before) is also making noise //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

i free-aired them both, and this one makes a noise similar to the the "rr" in spanish (i don't know how else to describe it), but only when loud. when i push on the dust cap (with the sub not playing) it seems to have a tiny bit of movement independent of the cone. if i have the volume set just right i can hear the noise and when i push on the dust cap it goes away.

i'm guessing this is also a slightly loose dust cap //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

both of these seem to be issues that were caused my manufacturer defect (especially the first one), but AA warranty policy seems like a real pain:

http://www.ascendantaudio.com/company.html

i'm guessing it'd be at least a month before i ship it back to dozy, he gets boxes from AA, ships to AA, they fix it and ship it back to dozy, and then he ships it to me.

and if they decide it wasn't a manufacturer's defect i'll end up having to pay a lot more to get them fixed.

i think i'm gonna have to try and call them on monday and see if i can just buy two new dust caps.

***********************************************************

ok, in the middle of typing this out i decided to try and call AA even though i thought they'd be gone by 5 on a friday. as expected no one answered, so i left my name and number. about 30 seconds later i get a call back from chad!!!! i tell him the problem and that i'd like to buy a new pair of dust caps. he says he'd rather have me ship them back and do it himself (so it gets done right). i told him that i didn't have the original shipping boxes, so i'd rather he just send them to me to save time. he said if i felt comfortable doing it he could just send out the dust caps and glue //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

he said he'd give me a call back monday to let me know when he'd have them available (since they don't usually have extra's around). i'm not sure whether or not he's gonna charge me for them (he assured me if i shipped the subs back he'd cover shipping both ways and all repair costs), but as long as it's not outrageous i'm cool with it. i hope he doesn't inquire about me being the original purchaser //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

anyways, chad has once again proven he's a great guy. hopefully i have the subs up and running asap!

dozy - thanks for being cool about this issue. i don't think ups would really do anything because there isn't really any physical damage that could occur while in the boxes. but it looks like AA is going to resolve the issue //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
