Are these normal test results for a battery???

blaugh!!!!
So I got my new battery home the other day... I tested it out of my car at 12.8V.... I know this isnt to great, so I threw it on my little battery pack, battery charger... Sure enough, 2 days later the battery tested at 13.8V..

HERES THE ISSUE... Right when I took the battery off the battery pack the voltage started to drop... as of 60min. off the charger it tested at 13.2V.

My questions is, do you think I should return this battery because it should have held the charge (deep cycle), or will the alt. keep it at 13.8 once I put it in my car??? Is this normal??

No, the battery is fine if it's resting between 12.8 and 13.1 volts... all you did by charging it to 13.8 volts is surface charge it, as it was already fully charged.

so that is normal and I shouldnt return the battery... When it was charging, it took charge up to 13.8...does that mean that's about what it will run at once I put it in the car and drive?

THANK YOU GUYS!!!!

It is normal, yes. No, you shouldn't return the battery. Put it in and let it do what it does.. everything should be good.

A normal charge on agm batteries are between 12.8 and 13.1
its all the same really. hell you can train batteries to sit higher as well.

the fact is, he has a good battery //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I cannot disagree, **** //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

A standard automotive battery is made up of 6 cells, each being 2.1v, so by definition a fully charged battery is 12.6v at rest.

Anything above that is considered a "float" charge, and will settle back to something closer to 12.6 fairly quickly.

Voltage alone doesn't really tell you much anyway. A good battery can rest at 12.0v and still deliver a LOT of current at that voltage, while a dead battery may rest at 12.5 but fall on its face when you load it.

Without an acutal battery tester don't worry about at rest voltage. If the battery turns your car over quickly it's in good shape.
