are mice good for anything?

spotted a mouse today, grabbed my bb gun and shot him. he died fast(within seconds) but i feel kinda sad about it cause i hate killing things.

are they good for anything? do they keep any sort of insect or other pest population down?

i dont want to start killing them if they can be beneficial in any way other than freaking out women?

i also have a dog that i dont want bitten by a rabies infested mouse

and yes i did a google search for "are mice good for anything" and all i got were links about being good pets and crap

thats what i do with them. other then that no.

kinda hoping it will keep other animals from coming around to feed on them.

we get a lot of racoons, but not sure they eat mice or not, they usually just get into the recycle bin and make noise
