AQ HDC3 ported box recomendations.

Im picking up an 18" HDC3 off a fellow member on here. I have heard alot of different tuning suggestions, so would like suggestions as to how big the box needs to be, and what tuning frequency it likes. Box size wont be a problem, as i have a nice big suburban...lol. So lemme here what u guys go with! thanks alot, ED

5-5.5 cubes tuned 38-40hz

what car/truck is it for? and ive used boxes tuned from 35hz-52hz and the woofer sounds the best (my opinion) in the 35hz range maybe even tuned to 30hz it will sound even better..

BUT if your looking for numbers your best bet is to tune somewhere around 40-45hz...at this tuning try to stay away from full tilt chopped and screwed muizk...lol i learned that lesson

Well I talk to DJ about the 18hdc and he recommend 6.5cuft and tune to 38hz

do a 6 cubic foot box with a port that has a 96 sq" opening x 16" long. That will tune to 40hz, which is what AQ subs should be tuned to. Whatever you do dont tune the box low. These subs lose a lot of frequency response if they aren't properly tuned in my opinion.

the rumor that AQ and DD love 40hz tuning is exactly that a rumor, DJ recommends 38hz for optimal output but my buddy has his aq's tuned to 33 and his shit gets loud and pounds the lows

it might get "loud" and pound the lows but i guarentee if it was in a 38-40hz box it would get louder and pound the lows harder. I originally built a box for my 9512 tuned to 34hz because i thought it would get lower since it is tuned lower. It was really dissapointing. then i gave in and built a box @ 40hz and the output easily doubled. i'm telling you the dimensions from experience. DD and AQ know what they are talking about. also, one thing people dont know about DD/AQ box plans is that they are tuned in an open enviroment. That means that a 40hz DD box, once put inside a vehicle, tunes 5-10hz lower depending on the airspace availible outside of the enclosure.
