AP Revo

I bought a 10" revo along with a 10" PR to go with it. On the AP site it says a sealed box can be 0.5 - 1.5 cubic ft. Thilo told me if I am after max SPL then I should have a net volume of 0.7 cubic ft if I have 1 PR.

Anyone else ever made a sealed box for this sub while using a passive radiator?

No you lose power handling with the larger box, you can actually put more power on it in a smaller box, though you are trading efficiency off too as the larger box tends to be slightly more efficient than a smaller box. though I woudl imagine thilo has a very good grasp on what he is talking about here...

HUge box might have insane lows but you cant put much power on your sub without it bottoming out, you essentially get closer and closer to IB the bigger your box gets, with optimal box the subwoofer will take loads of power and still play the low notes with authority.

the Air in the box is like a spring on the rear of the woofer, the smalelr the box teh tighter the spring that returns the sub to its original position, in a husge box you dotn have as much spring and so the sub is free to throw way more but is not as controlled.

smaller box is like a limiter (a cheap one) buts its really imposing a filter on the system that limits active driver displacement at the drivers own resonance allowing you to perhaps pump more power into the woofer which would then only benefit you at the frequencies (above resonance) that are not limited by that filter created by the box... note that resonance is the driver, not the system. the system resonance is between the driver's and the ports. Teh system resonance is the tuning point.

very informative, thanks guys. I talked with thilo again and he assured me 0.7 would be best since with the passive radiator the box is considered to be ported. I'm gonna go with his advice and build a 0.7 box.
