Hey guys! WHat's going on? Well, I just purchased my first sub, amp, and box and I now need to get the installed. I would love to do it myself, but I really do not know how, nor do I have the right tools. My only real option is to get it professionally installed. However, I would much rather not do this.

I was wondering if there are any member from North New Jersey on these forums that know how to install these items and would be willing to help me. I live in Sussex County...

You own screwdrivers, a few wrenches/sockets, maybe a powerdrill(to go through firewall possibly)? oh...and a BFH(always carry a Big F***in Hammer).

its really easy to set up.

1. Disconnect Battery + THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT SO YOU DONT FRY YOUR EQUIPMENT OR CARS ELECTRICALS!!!

2. should probably be an unused hole already through the firewall with a rubber plug on it. perhaps around the steering column boot? try to run the wire through the rubber plug. if you do need to drill through the firewall just make sure there is nothing on the other side. its possiple there will 2 pieces of metal to drill through with an air gap between them. drill the hole bigger then the wire so you can atleast wrap the 4 guage in duct tape where it will rub and dremel/file the edges as smooth as you can. I slid my wire through a short length of garden hose and duct taped it since you cant see it anyway.

3. put a 4 guage ring terminal on a 1 foot length of 4 guage wire and connect to the battery post's terminal clamp that you disconnected earlier(DO NOT RECONNECT TO BATTERY YET!), then an inline fuse(60 amp fuse should be plenty), then the rest of the wire to the trunk/hatch and connect to the amp. you may have to pull up the carpet edges at the doors and kick panels to hide the wire.

4.run an 18 guage wire from your head units "remote turn-on" wire to the trunk/hatch and connect to the amp's "REM" terminal. if you have a FACTORY headunit, i believe you can run the wire from the cars "ACCESSORY" wire. the amp will turn on when you start the car rather then when you turn on the radio.

5. run a 4 guage ground wire from the amp to a seatbelt bolt using another ring terminal. sand to bare metal where the ring terminal will touch for a good contact.

6. run a pair of RCA cables from your headunits rear or sub rca output to the amp. if you have a factory headunit you will need to buy a "LINE OUTPUT CONVERTER".

7. turn the "GAIN on the amp to just above minimum.

8. connect the sub to the amp.

9. double and triple check all connections and THEN reconnect the battery.

10. start the car and turn up your head unit to about 3/4s or till just before you start to hear distortion. put in a CD with decent bass and slowly raise the amps GAIN till you hear distortion then back it down just a bit.

11. Hopefully now you are done and rockin!.

I appreciate the reply, but even that is almost over my head.

I realize its not impossible, which is why I am avoiding professional installation at all costs. I just want to find someone who knows what they are doing who lives close to me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

i can understand it seems overwhelming the 1st time. the satisfaction you get from doing it yourself is irreplacable the 1st time you power it up and everything kicks ***. if you follow what i said you cant blow anything up if all your +s are to +s and -s to -s. hopefully you can find someone to help you out and then next time you wont have any trouble solo. it REALLY is quite easy.

Yeah i see what you are saying. I would definitely feel awesome after doing it, but I at least want someone who already knows whats going on to help. My older sister had gotten some part of her sound system installed by one of her friends who said he knew what he was sdoing, and while it worked, there were wires everywhere and it just looked like a mess.

I'm just now in the process of putting my first system in. I always had it done by the audio shop.

It's challenging but I'm almost there. There should wires running in already through a rubber boot and you can just feed the power wire through there on the drivers side (on my Civic). I found it fairly easy to route the wires to the trunk while hiding them all under the carpet. You're lucky and already have a box. I'm building mine...

Spent over $50 in wood not including screws and stuff because the guys at Home Depot not only make the cuts off, they are WAY off. Most cuts were 3/4 to an inch off.

I ended up changing out my battery terminals for brass replacements. It's fairly easy, I just had to cut the wire behind the old terminals and strip to put them into the new ones.

I can see why people pay to have this done. But after the first time you get the idea and save alot of $. The guys in this forum are great help. If you can't find anyone to do it ask and you'll get help.

that sucks they messed up ur sister wiring but man it pretty simple once u get started jus dont worry its ahrd to meess somthin. and its waaaaaaaay simpler than it sound teh hardest part is finding a oplace to tuk ur wires( depending on size) if ur goin 4 or lower id go thro teh center consol. but if ur usein somthin liek 8 gauge jus go down the panels. dont wry man jus try and if it doesnt work or u get worried u did somthin wrong come back and ask 4 help. but trust me when u do it urself that fealing is great espcially when uve never seen somone do it. and if u need it there r alot of poelpe who would guide u on how to do it over the net or maybe over the phone. but good luck man hope u decide to do it urself if nto good luck findin somone to help.

I always found that the hardest part for a noob is to find a place on the firewall to run the power wire, if you can find some where to route the wire through the firewall than most of your hard work is done, the rest is just pulling up carpet, taping a few wires, and turning a few screws.

My main concerns are wiring incorrectly and finding a place to hide the wire. I understand most of the process, but I just have no idea how you would hide the wires... Like I dont know how to take off door panels and stuff

Actually im lying... after looking at the step by step up top... theres a lot more that scares me...

it scares everyone the 1st time until they actually start the project. by the time youre done you'll wonder what you were so worried about.

i live in central NY, if you wanted to drive yo *** up here. id prolly help you out.

it is like 5 hours tho... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

i hear ya jmac.

my entire car is held together (sides the frame and some misc thigns) with plastic rivets and compression V clip things. when they get rusty - they are not fun to play with.

Well, I am definitely thinking about doing this myself...

I have 2 questions:

1) My current setup is going to be one 12" Kicker 05CVR124. It is rated at 400 rms. It is going to be wired at 2 ohms. I will be powering it with a hifonics bx1000d amp. This is rated to do 1 x 700 rms @ 2 ohms, so I will obviously be using the gain to regulate this. What gauge wire kit do I need to buy? Also, in the future I MIGHT buy another sub and hook them both up, running 1 ohm, and use the amp since it is rated at 1000 rms x 1 @ 1 ohm. Would that change things?

2) Any experience with Saturns? Mine is a 1995 Saturn SC2
