they're going into a 2003 mustang. the size is either 5x7 or 6x8 i dont think it matters. They will be powered by a 35 watt amp x 4 and a 18 watt deck so will i need speakers that need around 50 watts rms? i don't know if thats how it works I don't know a lot about it. but i was looking for components up front and just coaxials in the back looking to spend hopefully around 200 bucks maybe less.

dont really concern yourself with how much power the speaker wants. If youre looking for a 35w speaker typically you'll find lower line stuff, when you could have gotten a better set that would do the same the other speaker would have done with that power.

just find a speaker you like and thats within your budget. use your ears! if you need some recommendations, check into Pioneer D series as well as boston acoustics.

my amp puts out 70 watts to two speakers when its bridged. if i just got two nice ones up front then kept the ones stock in the back would it make a huge difference? like as in will it sound bad or will it sound fine?

Staging and imaging aside. Runnin the 4 with 35 to each will probably sound louder. Alot of ppl here run fronts only but really only to save cash. I run fronts only to keep my imaging stable since I dont have processing in rear. But I always ran rears before I went SQ. Just really depends on your goal.

Is your amplifier good enough to power 2ohm speakers? With 2ohm speakers, even if they're not true 2ohm speakers, you could squeeze a bit more power out of your amplifier. There are not many 2ohm speakers out there. Some good examples are JBL's Power series and Infinity Kappa. There is no 6x8 component version of JBL Power series I think. Right now the 6x8 Kappa sepakers are on sale at Sonicelectronix:

Infinity 680.9cs 6" x 8" 2-way Kappa Series Component System

They usually cost a bit more.

If you can afford $300 speakers for the front, JL Audio has a 5x7 of its C5 components (4ohm). These are excellent value at $300 price:

JL Audio C5-570 (c5570) 5x7 Evolution C5 2-way Component Speakers

(This is also a sale that probably won't last).

I'd bridge the channels for the front speakers. That's the ones you hear most and best..
