Anyone want to design a box for me?

well the 13w7 itself is what, $900 authorized? another 200 for the box is not that outrageous..
just simplifies the whole sub box thing for people who want convenience.

$700 for the sub.

And they don't make a loaded box with a 13W7, just a 12W7, which is $1100. So, when compared to a sub itself (a 12W7), it's $500 more for the box.

Depends on the patent type. There are 2 types of patents, "design" and "utility", if it's a design patent all you have to do is change one small aspect and your in the clear. If it's a utility one then not so sure, but I don't think that JL would hunt you down and beat you like some audio thug.
