I am looking into buying a pellet stove or wood stove to use for primary heat in my house. I have done some local research and pellets are around $5 per bag. Just looking for some input if anyone uses one and roughly how many bags you go thru per month. The house is older so these are my two choices as it does not have central heat system. Also if anyone has any other advice about this let me know thanks.

my dad has a basment/main story house about 3500sf he will use about a 1/4-1/2 a bag a day but that is running it at about 6-8 on load speed. this was also a insert model. this was also about 15 yrs ago.

if you buy by the ton full pallet you can get them cheaper.

he would use about 1/2-3/4 pallet a year. this was also in wyoming so you could look at alot less usage in ark. but depends on how hot you like it.

also check what kind of wood the pellets are made from some burn alot faster then others.

I don't have either, but know a couple people who went from wood stoves to pellet. Pellet is a lot easier to use, less work, more efficient, and cleaner burning. My old neighbor installed one and was very happy with it over the wood stove.

Thanks for the replies I was just curious as to real world usage per day. Yea my fiancee and I keep it fairly cold in the winter time so we should easily get by on 1/2 bag per day.

No...when the power goes out, you be fvcked...get a wood stove...no electricity required. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
