This is one of my favorite 4x4 forums.http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/index.php

The mountianeer will work, just be sure to lower you'r gears after a lift and bigger tires are added. The ***** is weak and will be short lived if you don't. The axles can take a pritty good beating so no worrys there. The front axle is a dana 35 with dana 44 outer knuckles It is good and strong.

This is a nother good forum for the vehical you are dealing with.

I am personaly running an 1982 toyota short bed pu, with a vortech 350 ,b&m ****** , full width axles from a chevy blazer , welded rear, detroit locked front on 35'' SSR'S;)

I wish i would have said something on here earlier yeah the transmission sucks i already screwed it up.......It has to be in nutral to reverse and in 2nd to go in drive....So yeah

I offroad not hard but I do I use a 2001 reg cab flareside 4x4. get some good knobby tires I use BFG Mud terrains. Look at some super swampers or things along those lines and take it slow offroading is not about speed. Its about the challenge.

if you want to get into hard core off roading quickly, go to:

http://www.avalancheengineering.com

you can get a turn key buggy for ~$25k last time i checked(i'm sure it's gone up since then).

the sniper is still my favorite buggy they make. last i knew, the snipers came standard with an injected 350, turbo 350 transmission, an atlas transfer case, and 42 inch tires. i know avalanche engineering makes unimog axles too and four wheel steering isn't too much of an order for them. i've met the owner and employees and every one of them will go out of their way to help a fellow four wheeler out.

I would suggest getting a Jeep. I just picked up a 88' Cherokee, they are EXTREMELY capable vehicles. And there are so many accessories and parts you can get for them. You can really have fun with them. It can get expensive though. Dont get any kind of Wrangler, too much and I think they are overrated. CHEROKEES!!!!!
