Anyone Off-Road in here?

I would if I had the vehicle for it.

The problem I'd see with a Mountaineer is that you don't have a very good low range 4WD gear, and stock you might worry about the undercarriage getting damaged. I might take it on the beach, but not in the mud...

my buddy got his mountaineer stuck on the beach...ended up getting flooded/starting on fire..thanks for bringing back a funny memory...

theres a bunch of explorer/mountaineer forums, which im sure have 4wd sections...i believe denim is a mod of one of them.

I've taken the van out to Hatteras before, but I was ultra-careful where I went with it, and I was probably down to around 10psi per tire on a fresh set of BFG's...not something I'd want to make a habit out of.

a mountaineer has waaaay too many drawbacks for off roading...independant suspension, lots of body to tear up on rocks, hard to get decent direct bolt on after market parts, high base cost, ect...

you should either look for an old fullsize ford/chevy with big straight axles under them and cut the body off, or, go with a jeep(expensive build) or toyota(older model with straight axle under the front).

off roading is a very expensive hobby that i suggest people stay away from. i once sunk ~$30k into a jeep getting it rock ready and had to replace a part or two every other time i took it out on a trail. i was climbing competition climbs with it though.

I'm trying to get into off roading and i was wondering if anyone in here was into it..Is there any good forums to go to and is a Mountaineer a bad car to Four wheel In?

Used to go off roading all the time in my friends huge *** silverado, shit is the greatest. Is your car even 4x4? Oh yeah and getting stuck sucks dont go alone.

yeah o getting stuck sucks *** got stuck in 3 feet deep of water then lots of mud bottomed out im looking a a jeep right now.....But i dont want to get rid of my mountaineer due to daily driver

This is one of my favorite 4x4 forums.

The mountianeer will work, just be sure to lower you'r gears after a lift and bigger tires are added. The ***** is weak and will be short lived if you don't. The axles can take a pritty good beating so no worrys there. The front axle is a dana 35 with dana 44 outer knuckles It is good and strong.

This is a nother good forum for the vehical you are dealing with.

I am personaly running an 1982 toyota short bed pu, with a vortech 350 ,b&m ****** , full width axles from a chevy blazer , welded rear, detroit locked front on 35'' SSR'S;)

Yes, pirate4x4 is a great site, but they will kill and eat you if you are out of line.

Anyone can have plenty of fun in a stock truck. If you think you like it ride with a someone in a modified/agressive stock rig and see if its still your pace. I like the rocks personally, mud isn't for me. 2001 Tundra V8 on metric ~32"

id by a winch first thing..
lol he's gonna need it.

To original poster... was this ride given to you? If not why would you buy a mountaineer to offroad with?

Just got my tacoma a while ago and havent had time to even put a system in let alone anything extra on the truck. Sooner or later I'll be out teasing some hummers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

I have a friend with a tundra. I highly recomend the glassworks fenders and bedsides . We installed a set of these along with simulocks and custom pre runner bumpers. It is easily one of the coolest rigs arround:cool: .
