Anyone know good server software?

I'm looking for some kind of free software so I can set up a media server on my pc at home. I just want to be able to access my music collection while I'm at work, I can't fit it all on my ipod. I tried to use 'serv-u' but I could never figure it out and get it to work. Does anyone have any experience with this?

If you're wanting the easiest thing possible, just get a copy of Winamp Pro and use the Winamp Remote, it will let you stream your entire media folder to any computer you want, it uses up like 40mb of memory, but it is incredibly easy to use and has tons of neat features.
