my buddy has a 2000 BMW 323i with a pioneer DVD/navigation head unit. the other day he blew his stock amp which appears to power the three-way components in the back and the two-way components in the back. i think the amplifier also crosses all the speakers over because the amp has abunch of speaker outputs one for each tweeter/midrange/woofer.. anyone work on a BMW that can confirm this? anyway, the problem is that my buddy blew this stock amplifier and wants to keep his stock front stage but wants to power them with an aftermarket amp.. the problem is the front stage is a 3-way and we're not sure where the crossover is.. like i said, we have reason to believe the stock amp doubles as the crossover so if that's the case, what do u guys recommend he do?

PS - the stock amp is an alpine and i told my buddy alpine may fix it for a flat fee if he ships it to them, but he really doesn't want to go that route because he said the stock amp wouldn't let his front stage get loud. which is why i believe the stock amp is blown LOL

Well the crossovers are built into the amp. It is possible to run your own crossovers and amp though. You'll have to get a 3-way crossover for the front and a 2-way for the rear. Get an amp with plenty of power as your speakers are all 8-ohm.

For crossovers you have 3 routes. The most expensive is two get two seperate out board crossovers, one 3 way and one 2 way and then you would need a channel of amplification for each speaker, so that means a 4 channel for the rear and a 6 channel for the front. Not Very Practical. The next way is two just buy a set of 2 way passive crossovers for the rear and a set of 3 way passive for the front. You would just buy replacements for a set already on the market. They wouldnt match up exactly with your speakers but would do the job sufficently none the less. The third option would be to use caps and coils to make your own crossovers from scratch. This is not that bad if you know how to do it but if you dont than its a ***** getting all the values and slopes right. For option 2 and 3 you can just use a standard 4 channel amp to run everything.
