your referrring to external hard drive correct?

I bought a western digital 320 for work use for our office as a backup source and I just picked up a 500 for home use. Work great so far..nice quiet operation. Prices have really come down over the last year so you can get some large ones at very decent prices.

I would say go with 500GB at the prices they are these days. I pruchased a 500GB WD sata drive off Newegg.com about a year ago for $150 which was dirt cheap then and got a external enclosure for it. Shortly after picked up another 500GB cause I somehow filled the first one.

Picked up these:

Enclosure: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817332012

HD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073

Just gotta make sure the enclosure you get will support the volume of the drive you buy, the cheaper ones won't support as big of a drive I think this is due to either power or cooling. Looks like you can get a 750GB drive for pretty much what I payed for my 500GB drive about a year ago.

Never seen one of those media center type enclosures, thats kinda cool. I wouldn't be too surprised if it wiped out quickly or the LCD went bad, but does look cool if you do a lot of that stuff. I usually just hook the computer up to the TV through S-video but kinda hard to bring to friends houses or whatever unless its the laptop.

Of what you linked I would get the Ebay case or try and find one on newegg and then pick up an OEM HD off newegg for dirt cheap.

i bought my wd 500 gb external for 100 bucks on a great sale. they retail for about 170 but go on sale like every other week at best buy. I think the 320 gb one i bought for work was about 140 or so regular price.

Newegg had 1 or 2 of the media ones without a LCD display, im trying to find it
Here we go:

These only seem to support Xvid and DivX... which isn't the .avi i need lol
You get brilliant high definition video and digital sound quality (720p)' date=' full DVD menu functionality, and high-resolution photo viewing, complete with thumbnail previews. The MH720 offers computerless playback of MP3, WAV, JPEG, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, VOB, [b']AVI[/b], Xvid, and Divx 3.11/4.x/5.x files, including subtitles.
This will play movies downloaded from the internet (I.E. torrents.) I download some movies when I don't feel like backing them up into AVI formats. I am currently using the eBay enclosure you showed, as a Media Center backup until I can complete my build.

What do you think of it?

The media ones are pretty useless IMO.

They are wired so unless your going to run a long usb cable(meaning you are away from the main pc) why not just use the computer which is next to the hard drive to play the files?

If you are going to stream media over a long cable why not just get a modded xbox with media center and run a single network cable from your storage pc with the added bonus of being able to play games as well? The xbox also has a wireless option, but it is expensive.

If you want to run wireless you should look into buying something like a Buffalo Link Theater. I have one and it is pretty cool. I have never used the built in wireless to stream, but it has it.

You were pretty vague on how you were going to use it exactly so I wanted to point out a few things.
