Anyone know a program that...

will search for mp3 & ogg files on your hard drive & give a display of ONLY files that have similar info. I know I can get any dumb program & sort by title or filename or whatever, but this would show ALL files. I need to see only files that have similar tags (by similar, I specifically mean similar or almost similar titles).

my thing is I just moved up from 56k to DSL & since I'm still in awe of the speed of it, I've been downloading like a mug; basically trying to replace my crappy 128ks and down with better quality versions.

anyone know of one? In conclusion, a program that would search for mp3 & ogg files on your hard drive, and ONLY show files that have similar titles, together.

ok here's the problem:

1. When I was on 56k (and before I actually started caring about quality), all I would download were single tracks at like 128kbs mp3.

2. Every new CD I rip, I encode at q5 ogg (about 160kbs...quality comparable to a 192kbs mp3). Sometimes if it's real music (aka not rap or R&B), I'll encode @ q6 ogg (~192kbs).

3. Now that I'm downloading full albums at bitrates no less than 192kbs mp3, tracks off these albums, I have individual tracks from the 56k days. But I always re-encode the 192kbs+ mp3 album to q5 ogg (160kbs)

4. I'm trying to find an easy way to find tracks that would show ones with similar info, so that I could delete the single 128kbs mp3 & keep the album ogg track.

So first off, the size of the files would be different since these are 128kbs & 160kbs files. Plus the file name of the 128kbs mp3s, I always stripped down to no spaces (replaced with underscores) & no punctuation characters. Album tracks, I leave them just how I get them from freedb or off the cd book. However, the ID3 tag of 128kbs mp3, I left it as it should be (in its entirety).

So really the only thing truly linking the 128kbs mp3s & 160kbs oggs are the tags, but again, won't be exactly alike.

All I'm trying to do is get rid of the duplicate files I have; out with the old, in with the new...

ok then, instead of sorting files by size, select view, details, and then click on the bitrate column, it iwll sort from ascending>descending or descending>ascending. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Oh yeah, there's no internal support for OGG through Windows Explorer (AFAIK). It'll show MP3 tag & codec info fine, but not OGG. I mean, I can use foobar2000 to add all files in my library to the running playlist, & I can customize it to show bitrate info, but this is what my original plan is...unless I found a program that would search files & show you which ones are or almost are duplicates in terms of ID3 info.
