Anyone here know how to program C?

I've got an issue; If I have a string "Car audio is fun", how can i return how many words that is? I can use str.length(); to return the number of characters, but as far as the number of words, i'm stumped

Look through each string, counting the number of characters that are deemed to split words. This is not always just the spaces, it could be commas, full stops, exclamation marks etc etc.
