anyone have good tips for cutting small rings with a router?

And you haven't snapped bits or punctured your spleen?? Lemme guess...no safety goggles either? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
I've cut out quite a few holes and never snapped a bit by making only one pass. I've cut through 13 ply birch, 9 ply birch, MDF, and ghetto plywood and I've only burned the bit once and never snapped it. I've probably cut close to 20 holes or so with the single bit.

I understand the reason for making multiple passes but I haven't any trouble doing one when I let the bit do the work and not force it.

...and yes, I wear safety glasses all the time along with a mask for the sawdust.

Making multiple passes versus a single pass will slow down the dulling of your bits as well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

then be freakin careful man. one day that bit is gonna be worn out and you are going to get it caught or let go on accident and the wood is gonna fly around and hit your hand and you are accidently going to drive you wrist thru the blade and die from blood loss.

not my idea of a good time. ive turned it upside down in a vice and cut a 15" circle inner diamater that way, but i had lots of posative control with a large diamter ring. but im not doing that with something thats 2" man.

*shudder*

ramos, drive down here and do it for me and we can fulfill the 5% beer rule. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/toast.gif.bc0657bf54b9ee653b6438524461341e.gif

req, i know you said you didnt want to use hole saws, but you can pick up some cheap *** ones (like a couple bucks a piece) and get everything cut out. They wont make many cuts, but if you are only doing a couple seats of tweeter pods, they will work.
