Anyone have advice for newbie

I'm upgrading from factory. Installed Alpine CDA-9883. Have option to buy friends 12" L7 in sealed Kicker box and MTX TC4004 amp with DB Link 2000 watt capacitor. I think it's a good deal for the money but the sub is on it's way out. It knocks bad at high bass levels so it's not going to last long. Option 1, I purchase friends system for cheap and replace 12" L7. I also don't know whether I should buy a 2 ohm or 4 ohm. Option 2, I take my money and go find something else. Any help would be appreciated.
