I've been going to college on and off the last couple years and absolutely hate it. Even if I was to buckle down and graduate I would still probably hate whatever job I end up working.

So I'm thinking of trying out something like UTI or Wyotech, mainly because cars and working with my hands are the one passion I have that I could make a career out of.

Has anyone gone to one of these schools or know someone who has?

as long as you dont go into auto tech where you end up fixing peoples cars and go into hot rod tech or somethign where youre fixing them up, you will like it. trust me, theres a difference between fixing something and fixing it up. i spent over a year in college auto tech and dropped out because i hated it. you have to constantly be able to upsale other products and services for customers cars (thats where the 'every mechanic is a crook' stereotype comes from). any mechanic that has been in the business long enough will tell you that if you LOVE cars, DONT become a mechanic...

wyotech blows. UTI is where I am going next year. It is 25,000$ for 1 year of training. Is it worth it? I sure as hell hope so, I am going to a BMW step program after where I spend 6 months working my *** off and hope to get in with my local dealership. Start at 15-20/h but work up to about 35/40h and they pay flat rate. So work a 40 hour week but could probably clock about 60-80 hours. Hopefully the job will pay off until I can open my own shop.
