Not the first power amps,b ut Gen2 that looked like BBQ grills. I want to know if anyone has real world experience to tell me if they ever tried these things in 1OHM loads? I know RF only rated these AMPS for 2OHM loads but I also know those things were built like tanks and I want to see if anyone ever tested how well they run past spec. The model I am specifically thinking about is the Power 500m It's a mono block rated for 250wrms@4ohm; and 500wrms@2ohm. I want to know if anyone ever ran this amp at 1ohm for extended periods.

I am not familiar with that specific model, but I did pop a Punch 150 running it at a lower than advertised load. It was a daily driver and couldn't take the heat. They were built well, but were also built to run at spec. Same for the old Hifonics and old Autoteks. Those were well designed too, but you had to run them at specified loads when using in a DD.

i had a 1001bd that i ran at 1 ohm and it went up in smoke immediately. when i ran it at 2 or 4 ohms it was a great amp.

I have installed lots of 1001bd's at 1ohm and they've performed great and all for daily drivers.

All old school Rf mono amps that i've installed have worked well at 1ohm for daily drivers

Then it will be safe to say that the 500m will not play nice at 1 ohm. Thanks for the responses guys.

My buddy has a pair sitting in his closet now that are both charred to a crisp. the culprit, he didn't know how to properly wire his drivers and presented a 1.33 nominal load to each amp. The result; two beautiful non-functioning 500ms.

My dad has a 500m in his impy right now, One time he had 2 12's (dual 4's) and he ran it in a one ohm load, the only problem with that was that it got hot hot hot..... which those amps do anyways.

I wouldnt do it, just because he knows what he's doing and i dont and those are expensive amps nowadays
