I've had my 50 inch plasma tv for about 2 years now and yesterday all of a sudden the picture went away. Now i can't get anything to show on the tv..no cable..no dvd...no 360...nothing...It wont even show the menu for the tv itself on the screen either...It's basically like the tv was off even though the green light is on indicating the power is on... I'm so frustrated...and to make matters worse my warranty on it is up....Has anyone had this same kind of problem with theirs ever and can maybe help shed some light on what is wrong before I take it in to a tv shop tomorrow

The lifetime of the newest plasma displays is estimated at 60,000 hours of actual display time.

The life is much less in crappy brands like the ones available at WalMart, names like Vizio or AKAI.

What brand do you have?

Its funny you mentioned that cuz mine is an AKAI //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

Once I save up money I'm going to buy a sony or something like that cuz I should've known I was asking for trouble buying akai.

is it a plasma or lcd? your title says both. if its an lcd can you still hear the audio. if its lcd and you can hear just not see its the backlight same thing happened to mine.

i know it says plasma in your first post but some people see a flat screen and automatically assume its a plasma and dont know the difference so i figured id clarify.

you are screwed my inlaw is a tv repairman and he says the same thing as sdmtnbiker420 it costs about the same as a new tv to replace the screen soo looks like you need a new tv sorry

if it is a lcd and just a backlight then ive read that its extremely easy to fix and that repairmen charge entirely too much to fix it. so once we clarify if its an actual plasma or not it maybe very simple fix.

see i was thinking about buying a 50 vizio form circuit city because the picture was better then all the DLP ones they had there and i only want to use the TV for a xbox360 game rig.

i figured with the 2 year warranty i would just take it back when it started messing up, guess i'll have to find another sollution

Vizio is a developing brand which is getting better as time goes by..

It got some reputation now IMO.. I am picking up a 26 inch for myself when I m going to college
