Anyone else hate lazy realtors/property managers?

Jeez... been searching for nearly 2 months now for a place to live, as I'm moving 1,200 miles across the country. I email realty/property management companies, as well as private parties asking for pictures of the homes they have advertised for rent on the internet... on the internet, for God's sake! And no one seems to have any pictures, or be willing to get off their lazy ***** and get any!

In 7 weeks of working on this, I have had exactly two, count 'em, TWO people who have actually sent me pictures. I've talked to people on the phone and explained to them that I cannot 'drive by' the homes and see what they look like, as I live ~20 hours' drive away.

Today, after 3 emails back and forth and one phone call (during which he cut me short, just telling me to look at the website), the latest one emails me back with:

"Thats all the pics we have of this one sorry! I suggest you drive by the ones your interested in, just to check the neighborhood and to see if the commute to work is ok."

I told this moron on the phone and via email how far away I am... God, what a waste of oxygen these people are... I'm beginning to think all realtors are lazy-*** MF'ers. How hard is it to get a couple of decent interior and exterior pictures of each place you're trying to rent? Seriously, if you made it a habit, you would be good enough at it to pull it off the camera, resize it and upload it in minutes. Or just have them on the computer waiting to email if someone asks...

DAMMIT.

Go deal with the two people who did send you pix. When you buy a product or service, you are voting with your dollars and that vote is saying "I consider what you have as acceptable or even really good!". DO NOT vote for crappy service or inferior products as the more people do so, the more bad stuff we will get.

When you are all moved in, send each company's CEO, president or manager that treated you poorly a letter explaining what you ran into, let them know that the money you had went elsewhere and that if they ever want a chance to get more money, they should work harder as well as smarter to get it. Of course the idiots won't listen but you will have vented and vented well!

Then go rent the movie "Idiocracy" to see where we're heading...LOL!

Personally I would setup a few appointments over a two day period and just fly out and check them out in person. Will cost some cash but at least you have an idea of what you are getting yourself into, you could probably stuff 5 viewings a day in if you time it right.

he said "stuff it in"

ive never had a problem finding a place to live. most have been some of the nicest people ive met (expect for the one ghetto *** neighborhood i lived in for a while).

but in all reality...i do like lazy property managers. the less they want to send maintenance people into "my" home, the better.

Not an option. Can't afford it, can't take the time, plus I'm raising my 2-year old son solo right now... I'd have to pay for 2 tickets, hotel, rental car, plus all the extraneous crap. I have considered this option, but I just can't do it right now, unfortunately.

I dunno... am I being unreasonable, asking for the people who are making money off this deal to put forth just a little **** bit of effort?

Oh, well... something will work out, I'm sure, it's just annoying as shit when people don't listen....

I hear ya, bro. My grandparents were moving up here (Michigan) from Virginia, and my family and myself were basically handling everything for them. The reason we were doing this was that they couldn't find a realtor who would send them pictures of the places they were interested in. For over a year they were arguing back and forth with the realtor about the fact that they needed to move up here ASAP.

Needless to say, my grandparents ended up just getting an apartment where my dad works, as there were pictures and rental rates posted openly on their website.

Just sucks that people have no ambition to show you the product you are trying to buy/rent.

Well, got a lady to go over and take pictures of a house for me, the first person who was willing to go to any trouble. The neighborhood is fairly decent from what I've been able to find out, and the house is ok, but not stellar.

I think we may take this place over most others, just because the lady was nice enough not to blow us off and go out of her way to take some pics.

Amazing how many people in the retail/service industry think they shouldn't have to actually do anything to earn their living, eh? Most seem to just think I should walk up and hand them my wallet in return for the blessing of their existence. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Not a good idea in my specific situation. From the day I land in town, I've got about 9 days till I begin work and my wife leaves. Won't have time to do much moving in otherwise.

Plus, we'd have to put all our stuff in storage during that time, then when we found a place, rent a truck again, load it all up, cart it, and unload it.

Time just is the biggest factor in that regard. If we had to go that route, i'd be shooting for no more than 2 days from when we arrived to have a signed contract.
