yeah i meant to post this yesterday, this sucks, my dad is getting laid off by ford, there letting go 25-30k people, 13 plants down, hes about a year or so from full pension retirement, if he doesnt finish it he gets nothing..... i lose 3k a year in scholarships too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Even though he's fired, If I'm not mistaken, They still have to pay him till his contract is up.

EDIT: I heard something about contracts ending sept 07'.

But I have no idea.

yep he'll get sub pay supposedly till sept 07, BUT it always runs out early, especially with ford, he has gotten screwed over in MANY ways.... still after that 2 years he wont get shit

don't be suprised if he has any pension left. Ford made a couple billion dollar last quarter but i guess that isn't good enough. it's unbelievable how many plants have closed in michigan. not just ford but the big 3.

yep, 13 out of 18 plants with ford, its amazing, thats HUGE, they need to restructure big time, lay off ALLOT of the designers and people on the top, for the past 5 years they have been going in the wrong direction, bigger isnt better anymore, unless its fuel efficent, which its not, they were, im not sure if they are yet, going to produce a expo thats 19 inches longer, wtf? why...... there sales on the expo are horrible....... ford sucks

What's the reason behind the layoffs?? Just not enough sales or what?? Somewhere in my magazine pile I gotta article about some huge auto maker that got a big profit bonus of something like 6800 bucks....course that was back in 90 something or 2000 I forget.

that's called profit sharing. it's basically Ford wants more profits. it's not just ford but the big 3. they are outsourcing all there work to mexico. it's all about money.

iirc, back in 98-99 when the economy was awsome....... my dad got about 3300 or something back from profit sharing, plus something like 200 shares of ford, he has liek 450 total, YAY 8 bucks a share //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif im buying when it goes to 6 bucks....

I'm glad to see the layoffs... I feel sorry for the families that are affected but Ford isn't in business to keep Americans working. These decisions are always made on future estimates not on the past quarters' results. Ford is smart by looking at the Airline industry, which is heavily unionized and locked into costly retirement/benefit programs. They are operating at less than 75% capacity; whereas, when you compare it to companies like Toyota and Nissan who are operating at about 100% capacity it makes sense. All they are doing is selling excess capacity to reduce fixed costs and eliminating those positions associated with it. They also are eliminating 12% of their salaried employees (corporate) as well. In the long run it will allow Ford to remain more flexible and competitive with foreign competition.
