Anybody here bowl?

Last I played, I bowled a 23. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif I was tryin' to teach my neices how to bowl. That 23 doesn't get much better for me though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i bowl like six days a week when i'm laid off usually. highest average i held was 193 through a season. high game is 290. i average about 220 at my normal house, but that's just because i'm there so much i know how the oil is down all the time.

if you need any tips or anything shoot me a pm

I've tried using that grip, I just can't do it very good. The type of grip I do it where you only put your index and middle finger in and your thumb is out to the side to support the ball when you are about to release.
If that makes sense //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
bad habit to get into. learn how to hook the ball correctly and you'll be 10x more consistent. that's why you never see people throwing the ball like that in the PBA. pba isn't about highest score, it's about consistantly throwing good scores. i could qualify for some tournaments, but i know the pressure would just **** me all up and i'd be wasting my money.

the two finger method is EXTREMELY inconsistant. especially when shooting for the 6 and 10 pins

Whats the most strikes you have gotten in a row?
I've only done 4 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif.

My specialty are spares //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

most i ever threw was 16 in a row. the first 11 were the last 11 of my 290 game, then the next game i started off with 5 in a row. the ol' split 300

LOL i think the lowest game i've ever seen anyone bowl withOUT bumpers was like a 60 something.

I've tried to get that grip down, I guess I should just practice a little more at it. I'm also weird in that I slide on the opposite foot I should slide with. I bowl left handed, you should slide with your right foot, but I do it with my left foot. Its just how I've learned. I've got a lot of bad habits, but it still seems to work out for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

it'd be easier if i saw you bowl, but there's lots of tips.

always start in the same spot, and adjust how you throw the ball instead of adjusting where you're approaching from.

don't hurry your approach.

start with a 4 step approach, it's the most basic with less movement.

let your ball do all the work, don't muscle it.

bowling is 99% muscle memory. REPITITION REPITITION REPITITION

oh and buy your own ball and shoes. a. even a 80 dollar ball is better than a house ball as long as it's drilled to your fingers. this way you always know how your ball will act in certain situations. and b. if you buy a 30 dollar pair of shoes, after using them 10 times they've paid for themselves with the cost of rentals, and you'll always slide the same.

Do you guys bowl with 3 fingers to curve? I heard with the thumb it helps with how much to curve. Seems like it hurts tho!
thumb doesn't effect curve, it effects the stability of your backswing and release.

but yes i bowl with my thumb and two fingers

Man you have no idea how much money I've saved since I bought my own shoes lol. I'm probably going to head up there today and work on that three finger technique. Is that weird that I use the wrong foot to slide on? I've REALLY been trying to break that, but I do better with the same ole' way I've been doing it all along.

like i said i can't really tell without watching you bowl, but i would say it's a bad thing that you slide on the wrong foot. sliding on your left if you throw right gives more leverage and vice versa for left handers. but if you can do it effectively, leave it. but what it all comes down to is HOW effective you want to be? if you want to be able to throw a perfect game some day(or mulitple of them) or even an 800 series(my high is 795 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif) then i'd do whatever I could to move towards a "good" style.

if you want to move away from the occasional 200 game and into the 'i throw one almost everytime i go out' area, i'd say fix things that are wrong now, because they'll be a lot harder to fix later on.

bad stuff isn't always bad though, there was some 19 year old kid in the pba that threw without a thumb, i haven't seen him in a couple years though so i guess that speaks for itself...

i would slide on my left foot

Its kinda funny, my friend was getting after me about one time. I throw the ball with my left hand, but I slide with my left foot too, so its kinda opposite. It works for me though thats why I have been reluctant to change.

as for the three finger thing, it's a lot easier once you get the hang of it....

hold your hand like this (excuse the mspaint drawing) cocked to the inside. make sure you keep your wrist cocked the entire way back and forward. when you let go of the ball, let your thumb slide out first, then just give it a little flick with your other two fingers as it leaves them. a lot of people call it the "suitcase technique" because it's like you're letting go of a suitcase. if the flick of the wrist at the end screws you up, just pull back(or up) on the ball as you're letting it go, it should have a natural spin to it. as you get better at it, you can start adding more and more comfortably

edit: i just saw that you're left handed, so cock your left wrist intowards your body, not to the left lol

lol I see what you mean. I just need to work on it. I think the other times I tried it, I tried to force it with my wrist.
