my amp powers up, sends power to my subs, but it sounds like it's not sending enough power to my subs. the amp is rated at 1000watts @ 1ohm, it's a Nakamichi pa-8001, my subs, 2 12w6v2's are wired in parallel into a 1ohm load. I've tested the subs with a DMM to make sure they werent blown and they werent. Something's a little fishy here, because I just came back from switching the Nak amp with an Orion 600d, which puts out 600 watts @ 1ohm, and the subs pounded twice as loud as the Nak. So something is definitely wrong with the Nak.
Anyways, backstory to what happened to the Nak. A friend and I was installing my system, right when everything was done, my friend noticed that the Nak amp has a switch, Normal or Bridge mode, so my friend thought that it was supposed to be in Bridge mode, so my friend switched it over. I didnt know any better and I agreed with him, (he has more years of experience than I did). We turned the key to the On position, everything powered up but my freaking subs were distorting and the excursion on the subs were **** crazy. The excursion was so sick that I thought my subs were going to blow. I told my friend to turn it off because something was wrong. We checked everything again, made sure all connections were secure and where they should be and everything checked out. I finally came to my senses and pulled out the owners manual on the nak amp. I read through it and it stated specifically that Bridge mode is to be used only if I was to connect two Nak pa-8001 amps together to put out twice the power, kind of like a link between the two amps to act as one amp. So I was like "****" I switched it back to normal, we turned the ignition back on, and my subs were not hitting at all. At this time I thought my subs were blown, because the amp powered up fine, but my subs were barely moving. Anyways, this happened about 2 or 3 years ago, I just finally went out and tested it today. Although, I tested the subs out a long time ago. I was too lazy to do anything about it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif
The way I see it, if the board or one of caps was fried Im sure I would've saw smoke coming from the amp or there would've been a foul smell, indicating something was toast. And even then, if the amp was toast it shouldnt have powered on. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
So Im asking if any of you guys know whats wrong with it.
Thanks!
