Anybody else watch the "Top 10 Rappers" on BET?

its terrible how often a tv channel that was responsible for making hip hop what it is, is also responsible for embarrassing the **** out of hip hop as a whole. There is so much more good hip hop than the people included on the list here. Eminem can rhyme but refuses to showcase that anymore unless he is on a track with someone that can rhyme with him see Bad Meets Evil and any track he is on with Slaughterhouse. Jada lyrically pees on the majority of that list. Any of you that says other wise has not listened to an entire album of his. Joe Budden as a solo artist should be somewhere near the top of that list provided it is post 2000. After Jay-Z mis-managed the start of his carer in 2003 he has made nothing short of phenomenal music every release. Most artists (Jay-z and Eminem included) are said to have made worse music as their career progresses. Joe Budden on the other had has grown as an artist lyrically with every release. I have had people tell me that after listening to Mood Muzik 4 they could not go back and listen to the others because its like taking a step backwards. Now if we are talking about influence on hop hop as a whole then Black Thought and the roots should no doubt be listed here. They have done more for hip hop than everyone on that list combined. For the one who referenced Lupe Fiasco. I used to love him until he released Lasers. Now i know the story behind it that Atlantic picked the track listing however he has still promoted this album and it is ******* terrible. He made one great (Food and Liquor) and one classic album (The Cool) and now one terrible album in Lasers. Luda can rhyme but doesnt have **** to say worth listening so I have passed on every release of his since Chicken and Beer. Never been a fan of the Game as for me Crooked I has represented the west since Dre stopped making music. Talib Kweli has also had more influence on hip hop than anyone on that list despite being underground for the most part. Lyrically he has never slouched and has continued to make good albums year after year. I hate Kanye but I cannot deny that he has had an influence on hip hop since he showed up in 2002. He can rhyme a little and his production has been good all along. J. Cole is the future of solo hip hop. He can rhyme like few ive heard this early in their career and he started off with a very good album. Rick Ross is painfully average as is his entire camp Wale included this being said by someone from DC. Im sure i have more to say about hip but my fingers are tired of typing now.

Theres a lot that I agree with here... Some arguments I would have is that, The Games R.E.D. album would be my favorite of the year, he has really been on top of his game, (as of late). Wale is also very nice, but does not fit into the MMG persona. He is more of a happy, chill rapper, not hardcore as they make him in MMG. I had already said that about Jay and Em earlier in the thread, totally agree. And I didnt know Joe Budden was so cold until the BET cypher. Lastly, I respect Jadakiss, and he has some of my fav songs, but his presence in rap hasn't been that big of late.

There is just some non-sense going down on here... 40 should be on the list, agreed. And Andre 3000 is an intriguing pick... But people are saying Jay has never made a great album, bahahaha. The Blueprint and Reasonable Doubt are some of the greatest albums ever made! People buy Jay's schit cuz its hot and he helped mold hip-hop. I am the first to say, I do not like or praise a lot of his new stuff, but it is leagues better than Eminems new stuff. The last great Eminem album, IMO, is the Marshall Mathers LP.

Budden has lyrically been over the heads of the majority of hip hop listeners since inception. Take a listen to 10 mins from Pump it Up and you can tell even then that he was destined to excell lyrically. Jada never had the charisma to gain a big fan base but he can flat out rhyme. Wale to me tries too hard to inject metaphors and similies into his rhymes and makes some of his stuff sound forced to me. And yes he does not belong in MMG but that being said who really does. Its hard to give anything album of the year this year there has been so much quality hip hop release. Bad Meets Evil, Charity Starts at Home(Phonte), All 6s and 7s(Tech N9ne), Success is Certain(Royce), W.A.R(Pharoahe Monch). W.A.R. especially this was one hell of an album.

You right, I am kind of basing it off the mainstream stuff... I loved RED. But I didnt know Phonte dropped, Im deff gonna go pick that up. Little Brother is too dope!

call me older but music in general the past 5 or so years has gone so far down hill its almost going to be impossible to bring it out of the **** hole its in, such as wiz khalifa, Dubstep in general, all these young this and that rappers, soulja boy and the like, are just awful

Music is always going to evolve, we cannot stop that. A lot of new artists are trash, but you still have some of the legends, and some of the up-and-comers that should keep Hip Hop around a lil longer. Regardless, one day hip hop will be gone. Too many people think they can rap, and too many people are getting deals.
