How ya like that bike? I've been interested in getting a new 250. I Love Honda, super durable.
I love it. If you are looking for the most reliable 250f get a yamaha. Yamaha's tend to get more valve life than the other makes, probably because they have 3 smaller, lighter, intake valves. Hondas are known to have valve issues, but it is really over hyped. I think Hondas are more reliable than Kawi/Suzuki, atleast for the earlier models. I rode my bike pretty hard, and put 75 hours on it (all motocross) before the valves started to move. You will get a lot more than that if you are trail riding.

Not the older hondas, they had a lot of valve problems
I wouldn't call it "problems." These are basically 1 cylinder formula 1 engines lol. I think the rev limiter is 13,500 RPM. I think a lot of the problems were more of a maintinance issue. The valves have a coating over them, and if you don't clean and oil the air filter often and then engine starts ******* in dirty air it will wear that coating off quickly. Once that happens the valves go pretty fast.

It was a poor design on I believe it was '05 and down. They valves simply didn't stay in spec and was not caused by anything like dirty oil or filter. I'm over 100+hours on my yz450 and haven't had to touch anything in the motor yet. Valves are still in spec...

There is also the older Rm 125 and rm250s had ****** gears made out of playdough...

And not doing proper oil maintenance will kill anything, ask my friend that siezed a rod bearing and sent the rod through his cylinder on his 08 rmz250f...

The 04 through 07 heads and valvetrain are identical besides some cam and porting changes... I'm about to put a 07 head on my 06. The 08's and 09's are basically the same too, they just have slightly smaller intake valves if I remember correctly. On the hondas, once the valves start to move the valve coatings are gone and they are done for. It was 75 hours before my valves moved out of spec, and I just did a valve job instead of adjusting them only to have them tighten up in another 5 hours. It's not the oil filter, it's the air filter; dirt through the intake will wear the coating off the valves. I think in 2004 and 2005 people were just used to the easy maintenance of 2 strokes and weren't giving these 250fs the proper maintenance they need.

thats why 2 strokes are so nice dont normally blow bottom ends or rods and cost like 200 bucks for a top end where a 4 stroke get pricy
