Got a question for anybody that works the wal-mart electronic department or has worked there very recently. When somebody purchases a new Xbox 360 does the cashier scan the system's serial number? Or do they just scan the bar code?

If I wanted to run the Wal-Mart "scam" I'd just buy a new system, swap out the top plastic cover that contains the serial, and return the broken one.

Anyway.....

My 360 crapped out as expected and my receipt doesn't have my system serial. I'm trying to figure out if they track these serial numbers and will only allow me to return my system to the wal-mart I purchased it from. Since I've moved 12 hours away from where I bought the system, that's a problem.

They will scan the serial, that's why it normally shows it on the receipt. Most people at the returns desk don't check it, the worst they can do is tell you no.

yes they do. i tried to scam them outa a cd deck and they caught it by the S/N. they still returned it.

it sucked. i seen her (custermer service lady) take it outa the box and start reading the S/N and im like ****... we have aproblem. i swore up and down that it had to have been returned like that before i bought it and that i noticed that it looked open.(i dont know how they have them loked up) afetr long time of *****in her manager said ok. but next time they wont do it. lol

Just check your receipt, if the serial number is there, then they scanned it, if its not your good to go. Although, they can call microsoft to see when the unit was sold, or built, and see if its still under warranty. But without a serial number on the receipt, they can't deny you returning the unit. I bought 5 on release date, had 3 fail on me, so I did the swap. Last one I did was about 6 months ago.
