Any negative effects on components if I get + and - mixed up when connect to amp?

Well after my stuff got stolen my positive and negative wires coming from my components got mixed up. I have another amp coming in today, but do not know which wires are which. I could take a chance and guess, but I don't want to harm the components. If i happen to put a the speaker + into the negative terminal and vice versa, would any harm be done?

it will just effect whether they are in/out of phase.

if you have a dmm and just set it to ohms and test both sides of the wire, that way you can find out which is which

A (AA) battery can help. Just put the wires on the + and - side until the speakers pop out, then you have the right polarity. Never tried it on tweets though, don't know how that would work out.

Sweet.

Problem solved quick. Thanks for all the input.

I'll finally have music again after 2 months without!

you would have probably knew if you cared about audio as much as do for blackies. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It's usually a good thing to have one of your mids out of phase electrically.

which one do you set out of phase? is it noticable? i am very interested because i am running active and trying to achieve good SQ.

That will do absolutely nothing, either way its going to read the ohm load of the sub.

And as far as having a mid out of phase that can work well if you have a dedicated midrange, however lower midbass freq out of phase can cancel each other out.

first off, we're not talking about subs

2nd, i dont think your understanding me, here's a picture:

DMM1: nothing should show up

DMM2: will show resistance of wire (i put .7 ohm as an example)

That way you can find out which wire is which, its basically a conductivity test.

You set your meter to continuity to test that, ohms will just give you the ohm load of the wire which yes you can do but that is not the proper way to test it.

Also a midbass out of phase can be very bad, i dont think i said anything about subs.
